EARL SIMMONS - der US-Rapper also known as (aka) „DMX“ war gestern, 09. April 2021, an den Folgen eines Herzinfarktes verstorben.
US-Medienberichten zufolge soll Simmons den Herzinfarkt in Folge einer Überdosis Drogen erlitten haben.
Er war bereits am 2. April ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert und mehrere Tage lang künstlich am Leben gehalten worden.
Wie ein Sprecher der Familie am Freitag mitteilte, wurde der Rapper für tot erklärt: "Wir sind zutiefst traurig, heute bekannt zu geben, dass unser geliebter Mensch, DMX, gebürtig Earl Simmons, im Alter von 50 Jahren im White Plains Hospital mit seiner Familie an seiner Seite verstorben ist".
Der US-amerikanische Künstler, war bekannt durch Hits wie "Party Up" und "Ruff Ryders' Anthem". Er galt als einer der einflussreichsten US-Rapper.
„DMX“ veröffentlichte bisher sieben Alben und wurde drei Mal für den Grammy nominiert. Er erreichte immer wieder Topplatzierungen in den US-Charts.
Seine Alben verkauften sich millionenfach.
Darüber hinaus spielte Simmons auch in mehreren Kinofilmproduktionen mit, unter anderem war er an der Seite von Jet Li und Steven Seagal zu sehen.
Zeit seines Lebens geriet Simmons jedoch auch mit dem Gesetz in Konflikt - unter anderem wegen Drogen- und illegalen Waffenbesitzes, Betrugs und Körperverletzung. Mehrfach musste er deshalb ins Gefängnis. Zuletzt im November 2017 bekannte sich Simmons der Steuerhinterziehung in Millionenhöhe für schuldig und saß im Anschluß eine einjährige Gefängnisstrafe ab.
Seine schwierige Biographie, die sich auch in seiner Musik spiegelte, machte ihn für viele seiner Fans zur Ikone.
Das Label Def Jam Recordings, welches die Musik des Künstlers vertreibt, erklärte: "DMX war ein brillanter Künstler und eine Inspiration für Millionen Menschen in aller Welt … seine Botschaft des Triumphs über Schwierigkeiten, seine Suche nach Licht in der Dunkelheit, sein Streben nach Wahrheit und Anstand haben uns unserer eigenen Menschlichkeit nähergebracht."
